I
was
planning
a
trip
to
Southern
California
and
got
in
touch
with
Willard
Love
(class
of
S'59
and
former
Assistant Principal
at
Dorsey).
Willard
has
always
been
very
helpful
to
alumni
with
all
things
Dorsey.
I
hadn't
been
on
the
campus
since
graduation
and
he
responded
with
plans
for
a
"VIP
tour"
and
added
a
classroom
assignment
for
me
as
well.
I
visited
on
April
30
and
was
impressed
with
the
atmosphere
I
felt
as
we
toured
the
campus. Everyone was
friendly
and
the
interaction
between
students
and
faculty
was
positive.
I
visited
the
new
Gym,
the
Culinary
facility
and
the
renovated
auditorium.
New
permanent
buildings
have
replaced
the
old
wooden
bungalows.
The
school
has
several
magnet
programs
including
sports
medicine,
law,
firefighting
and
the
culinary
program
that
created
Dorsey
Green
Sauce
that
is
sold
nationally
on
the
internet. https://www.dorseygreen.com/ I saw a lot of good things going on.
I
made
a
presentation
to
a
class
of
about
30
students.
It
was
held
in
a
classroom that
has
been
converted
into
a
mock
courtroom
for
the
magnet
law
program.
I'm
seated
at
one
of
the
litigant tables that has been turned sideways for the presentation.

The
class, led by
teacher
Irvin
Davis,
had
viewed
the
film
"Life
at
Dorsey-1958"
that
was
made
by
myself,
Tim
Harris,
Jan
Lowry
and
Michael
Lonzo
as
seniors
in
1958.
After
being
lost
for
50
years
the
film
was
resurrected
when
classmate Steve
Labowe
came
up
with
a
VHS
tape
copy
which
I
digitized
and
edited
for
the
50th
Reunion.
Eventually
It
ended
up
on
YouTube,
that’s
when
this
class
caught
on
to
it.
They
prepared
a
list
of
15
questions
for
me
to
answer.
66
years
later
I
tried
to
give
them
the
history
of
making
the
film
and
answer
their
questions
about
what
Dorsey
was
like
back then. The class was attentive and polite. It was a positive experience.
After the class the captain of the football team presented me with a Dorsey shirt.
This is the current logo. Very Zorro. Our old smiling friend in the sombrero has retired.
